Overgrown to Abundant: Ashland Community Garden Gets a Fresh Start

We’re thrilled to share the before & after of the Ashland Community Garden, now fully prepped and ready for planting! Thanks to the expertise and dedication of Master Gardener Michael Cornish from Dads United, we’ve turned an unmaintained space into a thriving garden ready for vegetable growth!

What We Accomplished:

Walkway Restoration & Weed Abatement: Removed all weeds, grasses & debris; Applied eco-friendly sheet mulching for weed suppression;
Spread premium hardwood wood chips for a clean and walkable surface

Garden Bed Soil Revitalization (6 Raised Beds): Cleared weeds, invasive plants & roots; Enriched the soil with organic compost & garden soil, Mixed & aerated for optimal plant growth

Top Dressing & Mulching of Garden Beds: Finished each bed with protective wood chip layers; Helps retain moisture, suppress weeds & improve the garden’s aesthetics

Planting Has Begun!  As you can see, we’ve started our planting with various plants and vegetables that our Garden Caretaker, Kelci Hoylman, has provided. We’re excited to see this space flourish into a thriving community garden that supports fresh, local produce for all!

Huge thanks to everyone who made this possible! We can’t wait to see this garden flourish with fresh vegetables for the community!
